Much research focuses on reducing energy consumption, prolonging the network life time. To prolong the network lifetime is deployment of some relay nodes with more high ability to do the long distance communication. Therefore, network with relay nodes is more valuable in practice applications than homogeneous one. This paper discusses the framework of hybrid network and the instruction of relay nodes. It is discussed the advantage of relay node added in the traditional wireless sensor networks. Relay nodes placement is constrained in practice and the area is irregular. The relay nodes bear most of the long distance communication, so the network can save energy consumption of sensor nodes, balance the energy consumption and extend the network life cycle.
