An experimental study of several operation regimes of Q-switch modulator and their impact on the shape of Q-switched fiber laser pulses are discussed. It is shown that various Q-switch regimes including classical Q-switch, simultaneous Q-switch with quasi-mode-locking, or Q-switch with reduced interval between subpulses can be easily obtained using different Q-switch modulator switching functions.
