In the present paper we discuss an optical design for an airborne dual band imaging spectrometer that is optimized for Defence applications. A fast (F#=2) wide field system (18°) with low distortion and diffraction-limited quality both in the spectral range 3.7-5 μm and 8-11 μm is proposed using off the shelves detectors. A compact optical channel with a two-mirror telescope, a Dyson spectrometer and two relay optics are discussed describing the most significant design rationales.
