This paper proposes a new fractional-slot-windings axial-flux permanent-magnet (PM) (AFPM) machines with PM Halbach array, which incorporates the merits of high torque density, high torque/weight ratio and easy cooling in windings. The analytical design of the proposed machine is investigated, and a general design procedure is presented. Moreover, 3D finite-element analysis (FEA) is performed to predict the electromagnetic performance of the designed machine, such as PM fluxes, back-EMF and torque. The FEA-based results verify the effectiveness of the proposed machine.
