The paper describes a novel system to enhance the images of the interior of the body. The medical image processing system is designed using an embedded processor interfaced to FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). The system is designed for the rural and semi-urban healthcare and it is cost effective and portable. As the specialists are not available in these areas, it is designed to have the access of expert doctors through internet. Various algorithms have been developed and described for retinal image processing and enhancement. This system is developed on a reconfigurable platform and can be used for other medical images as well.
