The concept of Ontology has been introduced into engineering fields, including the Fault Diagnosis Expert System with artificial intelligence. Ontology as expression of domain knowledge can provide a new method for building expert system. Focusing on fault diagnosis of automotive engine, Domain-ontology-building, Fault-Diagnosis-System-Construction, and System-Reasoning-Description, are discussed in this paper, based on these, a complete fault diagnosis expert system of an automotive engine has been built as well.
