This article discusses recent advances in CMOS-based mm-wave receivers for both passive and active mm-wave applications. System level configurations including scanning and array configurations are discussed as well as the advantages of pre-amplification vs. simple detection for active and passive imaging applications. Finally, several recent mm-wave receviers implemented in CMOS technology for both passive and active imaging applications are reviewed in detail.
