A new method for calculating a look-up table to linearise a sensor output characteristic is presented. A least mean squares technique has been used to calculate look-up table entries directly from sparse calibration data. The algorithm has been compared with classical algorithms in a mono-dimensional application. Simplicity, general applicability and reduction of the occupied memory space make it suitable for use in microcontroller-based systems which perform function approximation
