In order to address the shadow, shelter problems in image segmentation, a novel intensity-based model with shape prior constraint is proposed in this paper. Two dimensional principle component analysis (2D-PCA) approach and pre-image strategy are exploited to extract the shape prior. The obtained shape prior term is then incorporated into the intensity-based segmentation model to develop a new image segmentation algorithm. The airplane shapes are selected for segmentation to evaluate the performance of our proposed method. The experimental results show that the new segmentation approach is effective.
