We survey algorithms and software for computing Voronoi diagrams of points, line segments and circular arcs in the Euclidean plane, and report on an experimental evaluation of two state-of-the-art Voronoi codes: Held's VRONI and the Voronoi code implemented by Karavelas within the framework of the CGAL project. We conclude this survey by an extensive (albeit not comprehensive) discussion of applications of Voronoi-based algorithms in diverse fields.
