In this paper, we empirically evaluate the performance of emerging LAN technologies, including 10 and 100 Mbps Ethernet, switched or unswitched, and Token Ring/Ethernet LAN Emulation over ATM. Throughput data will be presented for a large number of currently used operating systems, protocols, etc., with a discussion of the impact of each on performance. Also presented is a comparison of the technologies based on their ability to support multiple video sessions in the presence of file transfer activity
