In this paper an efficient method based on genetic algorithm is proposed to solve channel assignment problem, the frequencies are assigned to the requested calls in a cellular mobile network subject to electromagnetic compatibility constraints such that a required bandwidth is minimized and proper genetic operators are used. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by solving two channel assignment problems. The results show that this method can find equal or better solution with a minimum required bandwidth in comparison with the other algorithms investigated in the paper.
