This column describes an engineering competition between two of the United States' oldest engineering schools, the US Military Academy in West Point, New York, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, that promotes saving lives though applied advances in technology. A story about one successful undergraduate experience illustrates how students can become what employers seek and society requires from educational institutions.
