Water is absolutely necessary in both daily life and industrial production. The content of Ca2+ and Mg2+ in water is of great significance to human health and the industrial application. This paper gived a research on strengthening of external magnetic field to softening hard water using magnetic ion exchange resin, and the exchange dynamic was also studied. The result showed that when pH of water was 6.0 and current velocity was 2VB/h, the removal rate of Ca2+ and Mg2+ using magnetic ion exchange resin reached the maximum. External magnetic field could significantly increase the exchange capacity of resin. The removal rate of Ca2+ and Mg2+ was over 90% when the magnetic field intensity was 160KA/m and treatment time of operating velocity was 30min.The exchange mechanism of removal of Ca2+ and Mg2+ in hard water using magnetic cationic exchange resin was membrane diffusion. The model of exchange dynamic was F(t) = 1-exp(-0.0104t). Effect of magnetic ion exchange resin on softening hard water was good, which would have wide application prospect.
