This paper looks at the integration between satellite and terrestrial networks from the perspective of mobile (rather than personal) communications users. Various communications applications in the vehicular transport sector require differing levels of integration. In the context of UMTS, an integration hierarchy is proposed and reference is made to the anticipated impact of each level of integration on such mobile communications applications
