The characteristics of the torque and vibration of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor are affected by the shape and location of permanent magnets in the rotor. This paper proposes the optimization method with response surface methodology considering the vibration acceleration as well as the average torque and torque ripple. In the case of consideration of the average torque, the torque is increased to 112%. In the case of consideration of the torque and vibration, the torque ripple is reduced to 81% and the vibration is reduced to 66% without decreasing the average torque.
