This work proposes a scheme to expedite the process of finding the contour of an object. Regardless of the image size or whether if the target area is closed-end, the user only needs to select two initial points near the boundaries of an object to search for its contour. Time spent in manually selecting the initial points would then be greatly reduced. By using the dynamic direction prediction to further analyze the neighboring points near the boundary points, the proposed scheme effectively reduces the computational complexity. Furthermore, the drawback of being easily interfered with noises, as seen in the conventional segmentation schemes, is also improved in the proposed scheme. Hence, the scheme proposed herein can be widely used for various applications of image segmentation to achieve high-speed and reliable performances.
