NHK has been doing research on satellite broadcasting as a new broadcasting medium and on HDTV as a new television service since the 1960s. Now, HDTV services via satellite and terrestrial digital broadcasting have been achieved worldwide. As the next step, NHK is moving forward with research and development on an ultra high definition TV as a future television service that goes beyond HDTV. NHK called it Super Hi-Vision. We believe that our experience in the research and standardization processes for HDTV technology will be greatly useful in our efforts to realize Super Hi-Vision.
