The main focus of this study is to investigate how Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) can be applied in the development process of an orthography system. An orthography system (or spelling system) is necessary to preserve and maintain indigenous languages. The approach we take is to observe how linguists and communities work together in building an orthography system. The findings from this research will serve as a foundation to build the orthography system and will be used to preserve other indigenous languages of Borneo. We will use the Melanau (Matu-Daro), an indigenous language in Sarawak which does not have a spelling system, as our test case.
