Wireless coverage in rural North Queensland is patchy due to a low population density. It has been shown in the past that adding Cryogenic Receiver Front End (CRFE) to conventional base station receivers enabled an increase in coverage and capacity. CRFEs consist of High Temperature Superconducting planar filters combined with high linearity cooled Low Noise Amplifiers, and exhibit high selectivity and linearity. To assess improvements possible with adding a CRFE to existing base stations in the rural environment simulations of coverage and numbers of users were performed. A CDMA Uplink model with varied model parameters and base station height and voice activity factor was used in the simulations.
