This paper describes the idea of collaborative design process based on CAD/CAE/CFD for automotive engines design with a design process of a 4V105 diesel engine as an example. To establish collaborative design environment, the entire design of automobile engines will be concentrated and investigated. The collaborative will change the isolated ideas of traditional design and make the designing units contacted all the time. From the entire designing process to the cell designing process, the tasks will be reviewed and updated from time to time which making the design process synchronous and orderly and reducing unnecessary labor link. The uniform data format will establish exchange of full data. This can effectively improve the design quality and shorten the design cycle. According to the experience of design, establishing libraries of processes, databases and templates to provide a more efficient way for the future technological improvements. At the same time, the collaborative process will provide the online discussion and design for allopatric design organizations, sharing of technical resources.
