This paper presents a distributed random linear coding scheme (RLC) for wireless sensor networks, designed for data gathering from the network perimeter. In the presented scheme, network nodes sense, exchange and distributedly encode data, disseminating it towards network perimeter. The proposed scheme is suitable for wireless ad-hoc networks with no pre-deployed infrastructure and centralized control, exploiting in the same time the broadcast nature of the transmission medium and ensuring data persistence in severe operating conditions. In addition, perimeter data gathering is suitable for networks that are deployed in the areas where the access to the monitoring zone is severely limited.
