This paper assesses, experimentally, the performance improvement achieved by pre-emphasis of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) ultra-wideband (UWB) radio signals transmitted over standard single-mode fiber, using a commercially available low-cost directly modulated laser. Stable improvements along the time of the error-vector-magnitude, exceeding 3 dB, are reported for distances exceeding 50 km, for the OFDM-UWB sub-band centered on 3.43 GHz.
