Ultra wide band (UWB) is a promising technique in short-range low-power communication field. The auto correlation function (ACF) and cross correlation function (CCF) are helpful in capturing the statistical properties of UWB channel and getting to know the randomness of UWB channel. This paper presents a detailed and precise calculation of the expectation of the ACF and CCF of the waves that are transmitted through the IEEE 802.15.4a UWB channel. The derived results are helpful in design optimization of the UWB system. All related parameters are considered in the calculation. Furthermore, simulations in both line of sight (LOS) and non line of sight (NLOS) scenarios under different circumstances are given to validate the analytical results.
