The windage yaw of a 500 KV ultra-high voltage transmission line under the action of random wind load was numerically analyzed in this paper. First, Fluctuating wind speeds based on Kaimal spectrum, which reflects the change of wind speed with height above ground, were numerically simulated by means of WAWS. Then finite element models of transmission tower-line system which have different spans were established by use of ANSYS. The dynamic response of the suspension insulator string under the action of fluctuating wind loads were numerically simulated with ANSYS finite element software and the results show that the span has a certain impact on the windage angle of the suspension insulator string. By comparing to current design code, it is suggested that a dynamic wind load factor should be introduced in the calculation of wind load applying on the wires and insulators in order to precisely determine the windage yaw of the suspension insulator string. The factors corresponding to different spans are provided based on the results of the numerical simulation.
