In this paper, we have studied an approach to solution of these fluctuation problems caused by wind turbine generators in a distribution power system by way of combined use of two different types of energy storage system: one is EDLC (Eclectic Double Layer Capacitor) and the other is Lead Acid Storage Battery (a kind of Rechargeable Batteries). The EDLC has the property of extremely quick response and be used as a meaning to mitigate the sharp fluctuations, however it is costly. The battery is slow response and be introduced with large capacity on account of its low cost to absorb the slow variation. The mathematical model based on equivalent circuits for both of these energy storage devices are derived and completed in this work. Digital simulation with these proposed analytical models connecting to a typical wind power system model have been conducted, and the simulation results have illustrated the facts that the combination of properly controlled EDLC and lead acid storage battery can effectively suppress the power fluctuation and lessen the impact of wind turbine generation on distribution power system.
