The number of Chinese language learners is large and rapidly growing. Among all the factors associated with language learning, Chinese character is the most difficult one for foreigners. In order to provide a method for Chinese character learning, this paper designs a novel learning software, which is an application of Chinese Character Mobile Game-Based Learning (CCMGBL) under the comparison between Chinese character cognitive process and alphabetic writing cognitive process. The software follows the design principles of Mobile Game-Based Learning and is implemented by using the mobile widget technologies. As the test data shows, nearly 80% of the users consider that the software is helpful and interesting, and their Chinese vocabulary is indeed enlarged.
