The received signal is composed of a variety of different multipath delayed signals due to the complexity of indoor communications environment. In order to improve accuracy of TOA estimation of first path, a novel TOA estimation algorithm for IR-UWB systems is presented. In this paper, we consider the sawtooth waveform as a local template signal correlate to the received signal to detect the leading-edge path signal, closed-form expressions are derived for TOA estimation. Also, the effect of local template signal's length is analyzed. Performances of different algorithms are compared via simulations.
