The main idea of the lattice Boltzmann method, which is used in computational fluid dynamics theory for the simulation of fluid dynamics, is involved and developed to solve the optical flow motion estimation problem in this paper. Several different types of approximations to optical flow equation are presented to modify the optical flow constraint. By using Gaussian smoothing filter to image sequence before the motion estimating, a lattice Boltzmann-BGK equation is established. The computation upon the method involves iterations. The experimental results show that the estimating algorithm works well, and the lattice Boltzmann method solution of optical flow equation based on Gaussian smoothing is effective.
