Overwrite in particulate tape media is studied utilizing a micromagnetic simulation model. Seven different media, including traditional thick tape and thin metal-particle tape, are simulated to study the effect of tape thickness and demagnetizing ratio on overwrite. Recording head parameters, such as the record gap, the record current, and head-medium spacing, are analyzed for overwrite in the thick tape media. An analytical formula is developed to describe the overwrite ratio as a function of the frequency ratio before and after overwrite
