It is expected that large capacity distributed generation (DG) systems including photovoltaic (PV) power systems will be installed in future power systems. When the capacity of PV power systems installed in the distribution system increases, reverse power flow may cause problems. To deal with these problems, control equipment such as static var compensators and storage batteries can be used. However the cost of such control equipment is relatively high. Therefore, it is necessary to minimize the capacity of them. In this study, cooperative methods of controlling customer equipment to reduce the capacity of control equipment are proposed, and the effectiveness of the methods is evaluated by simulation analyses. The simulation results show that the amount of reverse power flow from PV power systems and the required capacity of the control equipment are reduced by the proposed cooperative control methods using the heat pump water heaters (HPWHs).
