The topology structure of one to multipoint, the transmission mode of passive optical, the multipoint access method of control media based on the high-speed Ethernet-based platform and time division multiplexing technology (TDM) and other techniques were used in the EPON. Many large operators have been in favor of many advantages from EPON for its low-cost, mature technology, and compatibility of Ethernet. In this paper, the network structure and basic composition of EPON were studied, the deployment of broadband networks in the future were predicted combine with the working principle of EPON. Finally, the key issues of broadband access technologies from EPON need to be resolved were summarized.
