In Three Gorges reservoir area of China, 3D visualization and analysis functions are widely needed in many works of geological hazard survey, inspection, pre-warning and treatment of local landslides and collapses, and decision making for emergency response. However, current 2D or 2.5D GIS system cannot satisfy all these kinds of requirements and a 3D visualization and analysis system of geological hazard is greatly expected. The method that combines aboveground scene with 3D visualization of underground geological bodies based on GIS and 3D modeling technology is applied to integrate multi-source geological hazard data and realize integrative analysis. Based on visualization technology, pseudo-3D geological hazard map is formed to show clearly geomorphic scene and geological environment along the reservoir banks of Yangtze River. The geological true 3D models are used in representing geological body and environment, processing the combined relationship of rock surface and structure surface, revealing feature of geological structures. System test region has 8 new migrational towns and important disaster area. An integrated 3D model will be built up based on ArcGIS, GeoView and Oracle to achieve data and function supports for pre-warning and decision-making system.
