In order to efficiently manage the multi-source and heterogeneous environmental data of the Yellow Sea and provide convenient and rapid on-line data sharing services for scientists or public, a web-based GIS system is designed and developed based on three-tire architecture composed of Database, GIS Server and Web Server. Multiple search engines are developed to make users browse and access the Yellow Sea environmental data efficiently and directly based on tables, digital maps or visual products. This paper describes in detail how the WebGIS application was developed, implemented and used from technical and structural aspects.
