This paper proposes a new mathematical model of service systems (SSs) based on theory of I/O systems within the mathematical systems theory, and furnishes both a conceptual framework and a mathematical framework for describing and classifying types and aspects of `value' of SSs. In fact, three types of values, that is, `stakeholder value,' `connection value,' and `substitution value' are proposed, and within the conceptual and the mathematical frameworks, `road maps' for developing new methods for evaluating such aspects of value of SSs as `profitability,' `marketability,' `connectability,' `completeness,' `replaceability,' and `uniqueness' are developed, respectively. For more development of the proposed mathematical model of SSs and the proposed conceptual and mathematical frameworks for dealing with the value of SSs, moreover, a concept of service creating SSs (scSSs), which are in `higher' class of SSs, is described in the proposed model of SSs.
