This article aims at building the knowledge base for onling learning community through examining the trends of and challenges in building online learning community for mathematics teachers and the role of e-facilitation. We reviewed related research with a particular focus on ERIC database and built a taxonomy of topics. The follwing results are highlighted: effective strategies for promoting online discussion include constructing subject knowledge, designing video cases with prompts and inclusion of case teacher for online discussions as well as the role of facilitation in overcoming challenges in online discussion. A strategic framework for promoting online learning community is also discussed.
