Addition of Renewable resources in a power system will have significant impact on power generation. Generation Companies (GenCos) characteristics will change according to the availability of new resources. Wind power as a representative and the most common-used renewable energy resource is studied in this paper. Although wind speed is simplified and represented by multistate models, load point reliability calculations are tiresome in compare with that in the presence of just conventional resources. Reliability network equivalent techniques have been introduced to simplify calculation in a restructured power system. The effect of generation and transmission system on the reliability indices is considered individually. This paper proposes an Equivalent Multi-state Generation provider (EMGP) model to represent a wind farm connected to the generation system. In this procedure, only the parameters of EMGPs and their impacts on the reliability indices change, while the portion of reliability indices caused by transmission system remains unaffected. In this paper, system indices are utilized to assign the appropriate number of states for wind speed and wind farm models. The procedure is illustrated using some actual wind speed data which applied to a test deregulated power system.
