The effect of the pretreatment by acid and bleacher on color changes and FT-IR spectra of wood surfaces of B. platyphylla due to irradiation has been examined. To monitor the relationship, L*, a*, b*, △E* parameters and FT-IR spectra of samples' surface were analyzed quantitatively by spectrophotometer and FT-IR at the different irradiation time. Irradiation time was altered between 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 h. Our findings showed that acid treatment promoted photo-discoloration and bleaching treatment enhanced the lightness value and b* value. The changes of the surface colors were related to carbonyl compounds, phenolic hydroxyl, paraquinones, ortho quinine and so on.
