In this study, a new reflector-backed Fresnel zone plate antenna (FZPA) with electromagnetic band gap (EBG) is presented. The circular FZPA equipped with EBG structures has been simulated by XFDTD software to study the parameters which significantly affect its performance. The proposed antenna has been first fabricated and then validated with the simulation results. Variation effects of the focal-length-to-diameter (F/D) ratios were also investigated. This structure enhances the directivity of the antenna and also improves the side lobes. Finally, the comparison between various types of the FZPA and effect of the EBG is presented.
