In this paper the experimental model of the nondestructive monitoring of the curing process of epoxy in situ by way of an embedded fiber optic acoustic sensor is given and the sensing principles of this intensity modulation fiber acoustic sensor are theoretically analyzed. The highlight is focused on the study of how the amplitude of the nonideal guided mode L01 in the acoustic fiber changes with the variation of the characteristic of the cladding material. Based on the experimental results it is concluded that the theories are in good accordance with the measurement results
