The characteristics of the torque and vibration of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) are affected by the shape and position of permanent magnets in the rotor. This paper proposes the optimization method with response surface methodology considering vibration acceleration as well as average torque and torque ripple. In the case of consideration of torque and vibration, the torque ripple is reduced to 81% and the vibration is reduced to 66% without reduction of average torque.
