Large scale wind farms connected at the end of power grid will probably greatly impact the power grid. The analysis of maximum power injection of wind farm is important issue in the planning and operation of wind farm. Under the static security constraints and transient stability constraints, this paper presents a particle swarm optimization for determining wind power penetration limit in power system. Compared with approximate linear programming method, PSO can quickly and efficiently receive optimal solution through the optimization. Through the improvement of PSO, the global optimal searching ability of the proposed algorithm is further improved and it can avoid the local minimum trap. The method mentioned in this article is proved to be effective through using EPRI-36 example. At the same time, the other relevant factors which impact wind power limit are also analyzed. It is important to analysis in the eventual determination of its maximum wind power injection.
