A network coding based hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ) scheme is proposed for mobile relay systems. The simulation results of the relay system using a 1/2 recursive systematic convolution code over binary phase shift keying show that the proposed scheme provides a definite improvement in throughput performance compared to existing relay-based HARQ (relay-HARQ) schemes.
