Improving machine performance using the controller area network - the automation of a high-speed can production line

This paper describes the introduction of new concepts into a tin can manufacturing line and its re-engineering with the aim of doubling the production speed. The design of the control system played an important part in matching the dynamics of the machinery to the production processes, and also in reducing costs and improving reliability.
