This paper describes a method to enhance the capacities of substation informatics and ensure greater insight into the useful information that is contained in the data sets associated with all the intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) in a substation. A soft computing technique based on rough sets can extract useful information from large quantity of data captured by protection, control and monitoring IEDs.
