A derivation of scaling rules for random telegraph signals (telegraph noise) and signal-to-noise ratios is presented, taking into consideration trap-assisted Coulomb scattering for stochastic switching. The theory applicable to this problem is based on a Landauer approach for the electric current and formal expressions for different transport regimes: diffusive, ballistic, and deep-tunneling. It is shown that the transport nature determines the scaling rules for telegraph noise with respect to dimensioniality as well as their dependences on channel length and temperature.
