Effect of transition width variation along thickness of medium to the pulse amplitude and width

The finite gap width replay pulse was considered in this paper, when the transition width is no longer a constant but a function of the depth of the medium. In the numerical calculation this function is approximated in two terms, linear and second order, as a=a(y)=a/sub /spl theta//+k/sub 1//spl middot/y+k/sub 2//spl middot/y/sup 2/. It is found that both pulse amplitude and pulse width change with transition width variation, however, the second order effect is much smaller in comparison with the linear effect of such a variation.
