The following are the key points of the methodology discussed in this paper: • Install tools such as PA-I1 or CICSPARS and VSE/PT, or RMF to collect performance and utilization data. • Begin to track the key utilization and performance data, based on model parameters. • Establish criteria for acceptable performance, in terms of peak-hour average response time. • Project future workloads in terms of CICS transaction rates. Use the tracking system to analyze trends and variations. • Use the model to identify times when capacity is exceeded, both best and worst cases. • Use the model to examine alternatives to upgrade the system.
