This paper described a new method based on the Grey relational analysis (GRA) for image local contrast enhancement. With regard to the drawbacks of the traditional image local enhancement, we firstly took advantage of the GRA to evaluate the mean edge gray value in the window of the neighborhood instead of using other conventional edge detection operator, and adjusted the contrast enhancement function domain in order to enhance the edge and at the same time prevent the smooth region in image becoming rough. The experiment and simulation results show that the new algorithm outperforms the classic approaches, can get a better effect. Moreover, the proposed method herein widens the use of GRA scope, and has provided us with a new way to image enhancement.
