According to the projections of UNIDO, the domestic coal reserves would exhaust, if the demand by consuming industries continue to grow at the current pace. It also leads to climate change. Biopower is a sustainable green technology to tackle this problem. Though there is huge potential for biomass, the industry faces some challenges. Higher generation cost, competition, biomass invasion etc. are some of the problems associated with biopower technology. Financial incentives, policy regimes, CDM assistance, entrepreneurial trainings are some of the strategies that may be adopted to spread the technology. This paper analyzes the potential for biopower and reflects the challenges facing by the industry.
